It is with great sadness that the STPS announced the passing of Sergeant Michael LEO (Tayus) in Mount Currie on October 13, 2023.
Sgt. LEO was one of the original STPS sworn members. He would have completed 35 years of service by the end of the year. Please keep Sgt. LEO’s family, community and the larger STPS family in your thoughts and prayers.
On October 18, 2023, the STPS provided an escort to Ullus Community Complex in Mount Currie BC. The arrival of the escort was followed by a traditional wake with speakers, hand drummers, singing and dancing in the presence of the Leo family, friends and the Lil’wat community.
A funeral service was held on October 19, 2023. STPS officers and civilian staff participated in the event with some ex-members traveling from afar to honour their co-worker, mentor and friend. The large turnout of sworn, retired and civilian members of other BC municipal police, ambulance and fire services came to pay their last respect. Those in uniform marched in the funeral procession and joined in Sgt. LEO’s ‘Last Radio Call’.
