Recruit Constable Ryan Grant was sworn-in on August 26, 2024 as the only new STPS officer of the year. He was born and raised in Lillooet BC and grew up playing minor hockey, hunting and fishing. Previous generations of his family were from Xa’xtsa in southern St’at’imc. This area is historically known as the communities of Port Douglas and Tipella. The family then moved to Minto City near Goldbridge BC and became members of the northern St’at’imc community of Sekw’el’was. Ryan’s parents eventually moved from Misson BC to Lillooet BC and began raising their family. Ryan spent his youth in Lillooet BC and graduated from Lillooet Secondary School in 2018. Shortly after completing high-school, he joined BC Wildfire’s Seton Lake Unit crew in 2018. After 5 years of wildfire-fighting he accepted a crew-leader position that lasted for 2 years. In August 2024 he left his leadership role to pursue a career as a Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police Service (STPS) officer. Ryan’s longtime friend, STPS Constable Jordan Austinson, played a key role in Ryan’s life-changing decision to join the STPS. Ryan began his training at the Police Academy at the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC) in September 2024. He expects to graduate on July 4, 2025. He continues to be an active member of his community through policing. Ryan aspires to and is committed to protecting and improving the communities he grew up in.
